Detail information about job Research Assistant or Research Associate in Software Engineering for MRI-compatible Virtual Reality. Terms and conditions vacancy
The salary will be paid at Grade 5 (£27,629 – £32,004 per annum) or Grade 6 (£32,958 - £39,324 per annum) plus £2,923 London Weighting Allowance per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)
This post will be fixed term until 31st August 2019.
This is a full-time post (100% full time equivalent).
We are exploring the fusion of Virtual Reality (VR) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging to create immersive environments for patients while they are being scanned.
VR is a fast developing technology that can enable the perception of virtual objects, environments and subjects as if they were real and co-existing with the user. For this reason, VR has huge potential for neuroscience research. This post would suite an enthusiastic Computer Scientist or Biomedical Engineer or other numerate scientist who will develop dedicated software for our prototype MRI compatible VR system. The software will need to integrate data from motion trackers and eye tracking to create and present suitable content to patients and allow them to actively interact with the VR environment.
The selection process will include competency based questions and a panel interview.
*Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. Should the successful candidate be awaiting the award of their PhD, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spinal point 30 with the title of Research Assistant until confirmation of the award of the PhD has been received. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6, spine point 31.
Candidates without a PhD will be appointed at Grade 5.
