Detail information about job Laboratory Research Scientist – Making Science and Technology Platform. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed-term (3 years), Full time

Short Introduction/ Summary

The Making STP provides Crick researchers with the tools, expertise and training needed to make devices to aid their experiments and a forum to share expertise. The Making STP at the Crick is positioned to lead a global trend in biology that is enabling the move toward low-cost iterative design of instruments and equipment that is tailor made for individual groups and experiments.

We now want to recruit a bold, imaginative, open, dynamic and collegial individual to implement and organize fabrication activities within Making Scientific Technology Platform (STP) at the Crick Institute.

Project Scope/ Description

The Making STP aims to be a creative, collaborative, co-working space where Crick researchers work together with Making STP staff and other researchers to exchange skills, ideas, and techniques to address their own research questions. We aim to harbour multiple areas of expertise within the Making STP, including microfabrication (photo- and soft-lithography), macrofabrication (3D printing, CNC milling), electronic, optical and thermal design. Although most of the applications will be in the microfabrication area, a number of our projects demand integration of all of these fabrication techniques. We are currently recruiting an individual to assist us with ongoing activity in the platform.

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.

An independent organisation, its founding partners are the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London.

The Crick was formed in 2015, and in 2016 it moved into a brand new state-of-the-art building in central London which brings together 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility under a single roof in Europe.

The Francis Crick Institute will be world-class with a strong national role. Its distinctive vision for excellence includes commitments to collaboration; to developing emerging talent and exporting it the rest of the UK; to public engagement; and to helping turn discoveries into treatments as quickly as possible to improve lives and strengthen the economy.

The closing date for applications is 22 September 2017 at 23:30 pm.

Please note: all offers of employment are subject to successful security screening and continuous eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
