We are one of the UK's leading Mechanical Engineering departments with a reputation for outstanding teaching, innovative research and strong links with industry. Departmental research includes: Manufacturing; Solid Mechanics and Materials; Thermo-Fluids and Energy; and Dynamics and Control. The Department works with a wide range of industrial sectors and is seeking to recruit a Professor of Practice in Engineering Business Management (EBM).

The Department and the School of Management currently deliver a successful MSc programme in Innovation and Technology Management (ITM). A new joint MSc in Engineering Business Management (EBM) will be launched in 2018/19. You will bring sector expertise and leadership to the development and delivery of EBM and support the ITM programme. You will be part of the Engineering & Management partnership and will be expected to raise the profile of this initiative through engagement with industry.

Your primary focus will be leading and delivering the EBM programme, working with our existing Director of Studies and supporting ITM. The key areas covered in these programmes include: product and service development; engineering business strategy; project, operations and supply chain management; costing and pricing; environmental management; creating and managing new technology; innovation management. Experience in several of these areas is expected.

To ensure the ongoing development and success of the EBM programme, the role will require regular liaison with industry (both existing and potential contacts), generating new ideas for relevant, stimulating and applied learning opportunities, including but not limited to placement and industrial-focused research opportunities and project work.

You must be able to demonstrate a strong track-record of industrial impact, with experience of strategic delivery.

Relevant backgrounds include: senior position at a major engineering organisation; leader of an engineering consultancy; founder of a successful start-up; creator of major industrially focussed research projects. Applicants with relevant industrial experience gained from roles within Universities or government departments are also welcomed.

To succeed in this role, you will need to evidence an ability to successfully collaborate and innovate; building strong networks externally and internally to deliver great results.

You will work in a progressive academic environment, and will benefit from the supportive and well organised Department and Faculty system.

We encourage the development of a diverse and inclusive workforce and offer excellent benefits.
