At the University of Bristol we are committed to the highest standards of care and welfare for animals used in medical research. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated team player to join the Animal Service Unit at the University of Bristol.

You will be an experienced animal technician with IAT Level 3 or equivalent qualifications. Promoting the 3Rs and a culture of care will be very important to you and you will be confident to train and mentor more junior members of staff.You will have extensive experience of working with research animal species, particularly rodents, covering their husbandry, welfare and typical research uses. Experience in breeding transgenic mice, rederivation and cryopreservation is particularly desirable as you will be based predominantly in this area. 

You will have very good verbal and written skills and be comfortable communicating with a range of staff from team colleagues to more senior staff including the Unit Manager, Named Veterinary Surgeon and researchers.Weekend working will be required. You may be expected to work in any of the University of Bristol Animal Service Unit facilities.

You may hold a Home Office personal licence, or be capable of applying for one with minimal further training.
