The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families supports distressed children and their families through innovative therapeutic practice and research, training and promoting awareness of mental health issues.
Children and young people's mental health research and evaluation programme
The children and young people's mental health research and evaluation programme involves two randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of school-based mental health interventions. The first trial explores the impact of two intensive manualised programmes aimed at secondary school students; the second trial explores the effects of three ‘light touch’ interventions delivered via trained school staff in primary and secondary schools. The first year of the project will focus on school recruitment, piloting, and developmental and adaptation of the interventions before being scaled up to the full trials in years two and three.
Overview of the post
The post-holder will be Trials Manager for the Schools Programme, working on the development, piloting and roll out of the two RCTs. This role will oversee and coordinate the piloting and trial roll out. The role will also involve liaison with a large number of schools. The post would be suited to a confident and organised post-doctoral researcher with quantitative and qualitative research experience and an interest in working closely with schools and in the area of child mental health, and in taking initiative to move projects forwards.
The post-holder will be a point of contact for Department of Education funders, research advisors school leaders and staff. The successful applicant will have outstanding research governance skills, communication skills and a proven track record carrying out large scale research projects. The post-holder will require excellent organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel.
