Detail information about job Computing at School (CAS) Regional Centre Coordinator. Terms and conditions vacancy

We wish to appoint a fixed-term CAS Regional Centre Coordinator to take day-to-day responsibility for coordination and liaison activities relating to our CAS regional centre. The post will also extend to wider outreach activities of the School of Computing and Communications (SCC), working as a key part of the existing academic outreach team.

You will be wholly focussed on supporting outreach activity – spanning both the CAS regional centre and the outreach activity of SCC. It is envisaged that this is a hands-on, person-centric role that will allow SCC to substantially increase the scale and scope of its outreach activities in the critical time window as schools work to adopt the new Computing curriculum.

The core role of this appointment will be to nurture and manage a regional network of excellence of computer science teachers across the region, as they seek to integrate the new Computing curriculum into their schools. At the heart of this work will be the establishment and maintenance of close links with our partner primary and secondary teachers across the region.

Specific examples of work relating to this appointment are:

  • Acting as the first liaison point for schools and teachers wishing to engage with CAS/ SCC;
  • Designing and organising a regular programme of workshops and conferences;
  • Adopting/ developing effective data management and communication strategies;
  • Maintaining a strong and dynamic digital presence for the outreach team, such that available opportunities for schools and teachers are well communicated.

Extended duties of this post are included on the job description, but include producing and disseminating a half-termly newsletter to publicise news and CPD/ training sessions, managing a pool of equipment to support Computing lessons and projects, helping to develop and maintain learning resources that promote best practice, and helping to shape and grow the general outreach activities of SCC in collaboration with senior academics.

You will be passionate about Computing as a science and keen to engage a wide audience in this passion. You should be self-motivated, creative in seeking opportunities and devising new activities, and able to manage a team of people where appropriate (for example, overseeing administrative assistance and coordinating undergraduate students to aid in running events). The ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of people, including school leadership teams, teachers and pupils, is also essential.

The post is fixed term, and for one academic year: 2 October 2017 – 27 July 2018. The post is offered as a full-time appointment, but applicants wishing to work part-time are very much encouraged.

The School of Computing and Communications offers a highly inclusive and stimulating environment for career development and you will be exposed to a range of further opportunities over the course of this post.

We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
