We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease ( www.prion.ucl.ac.uk ). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research. MRC and UCL are jointly investing £30 million in provision of a dedicated new building in central London for the Institute in late 2017 supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Technician to further complement our existing Histology team. The post holder will be responsible for supervising two histology technicians, the day-to-day running of the lab ensuring relevant practices are adhered to, allocating the workload efficiently, partaking in laboratory techniques as well some analysis done in conjunction with the line manager. Analysis will be on tissue samples emanating from varied work associated with long-term projects to characterise the pathology of prion disease in humans and mice using immunohistochemistry.

This appointment requires a good Bioscience Honours degree, be highly proficient in microscopy and histology laboratory techniques, having gained considerable experience in a scientific or medical environment. Experience in staff and laboratory management is essential. Experience in handling data is essential, as is a meticulous and precise approach to work.
