The Post

This is a Project Manager role, with the first project focusing on the delivery of the Transformational Applications and Placements (TAP) project. The TAP projects encompasses many strands from across the business areas with many interdependencies between the strands.

The primary aim is to oversee the project to introduce and bed-in a series of systems developments and enhancement related to student applications and placements. Additional IT development staff will be seconded onto the project to fulfil a business analysis and development role however, the project manager will be called upon to run workshops to ascertain the system requirements and, on occasions, document new desired business processes and workflows.

The project will run for approximately one year with incremental release of enhancements as they become available.

S/he will: develop and manage a detailed project plan; lead multi-strand programme of development and cross-functional teams in the delivery of project goals; manage outputs of third party consultants to the project; run the project on a day-to-day basis to deliver the project within agreed time, budget and quality targets.

A governance structure will be established to oversee the delivery of the Transformational Applications and Placements project in which the project manager will be expected to report to.

Description of Duties

1. Advising and working closely with the project board and senior sponsors.

2. Preparing and maintaining a detailed project plan and associated schedules for the project.

3. Leading, monitoring and maintaining progress of project plans to ensure delivery of the key stages and goals, to agreed time, cost and quality targets.

4. Eliciting business requirements using a variety of techniques as appropriate (such as interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, business process descriptions, use cases, business analysis, task and workflow analysis)

5. Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, and decompose high-level information into details.

6. Driving and challenge stakeholders on their assumptions on what is required and distinguish between requested and actual user needs.

7. Leading a cross-functional team (including academic, technical and administrative colleagues) to meet key project milestones and ensure the successful delivery of project goals.

8. Managing the numerous sub-project/work-stream activities and dependent working groups to ensure that they produce the required outputs, to the required quality and within the required timescales, to meet overall project deliverables.

9. Managing the activities and outputs of any third party consultants to the project. Overseeing and reporting on any associated project budget.

10. Monitoring and reporting progress to project sponsors and the TAP Project Board against project plans and delivery of objectives (e.g. project progress, KPIs, business benefits). Ensuring the provision of appropriate and effective project documentation and files.

11. Initiating corrective action, where necessary, to keep projects on time, to agreed quality and within budget. Assessing and managing change requests. Escalating any issues, as appropriate, in a timely manner enabling pre-emptive action to be taken.
