Detail information about job Research Assistant/Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant/Associate - subject to confirmation of funding. The successful candidate will work on a joint project between DAMTP, the UK’s flagship quantum computing hub in Oxford (NQIT) and Cambridge Quantum Computing Ltd (CQC).

The successful candidate would be part of the Quantum Information and Foundations group in DAMTP and although a background in Quantum computing is a plus, you could also be a talented individual with a background in computational mathematics or computer science. The relevant background information could be quickly learnt whilst in the post.

Building a quantum computer as a network of smaller devices is central to the NQIT idea. However, quantum algorithms are typically given in a high level mathematical language, and are usually not designed with a granular network in mind. The project seeks to address this problem by exploring the challenges and potential gains of compiling quantum algorithms onto a network quantum computer such as NQIT.

The project will help NQIT demonstrate its capabilities as a useful quantum computer and will also inform future directions of experimental work as we will be able to evaluate how much connectivity is useful.   The role holder’s time will be split between DAMTP and CQC and they will collaborate with a hugely talented team to contribute to the product development. They will have scientific direction from leading researchers from Cambridge and Oxford Universities, work with CQC’s chief technology officer who has experience developing the Linux kernel, and be part of a highly motivated group of talented graduates and post graduates.

With the freedom to think independently and creatively this is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to build their career. The successful candidate will have or be about to receive a PhD in a Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering subject from a top university. They will also have some coding experience in a language such as python, matlab, C/C++ etc. along with the ability to understand technical and advanced material and translate this into code.

If the successful candidate has not yet received their PhD, they will be appointed as a Research Assistant (salary £25,298-£29,301).

Informal inquiries can be made by contacting [email protected].
