Detail information about job Assistant Professor in Theatre and Performance Studies. Terms and conditions vacancy
The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Theatre and Performance Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin July 1, 2018.
Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Drama, Theatre or Performance Studies or another relevant field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Candidates must have demonstrated research excellence in the areas of applied theatre, theatre in education, or community-engaged theatre. These areas are broadly defined, and may include explicitly interdisciplinary, collaborative research that brings the methods or practices of Theatre and Performance Studies into intersection with those of other fields. Candidates must also demonstrate an aptitude for working within our interdisciplinary arts department where horizontal connections among faculty of different fields are encouraged: see http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/acm/acm-research-themes. Professional experience working in community contexts is not required but will be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. S/he must have an emerging record of scholarly accomplishments and will provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by publications in leading academic journals and/or with leading academic presses or a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at significant conferences, awards for work in the field and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.
Candidates must also have a commitment to excellence in teaching. This can be demonstrated through strong endorsements from referees, very strong course evaluations, a coherent statement of teaching philosophy that is linked to excellent pedagogical practice, demonstrated excellent performance in other teaching related activities, a teaching portfolio, and teaching accomplishments highlighted as part of the application. The ability to teach across the Theatre and Performance Studies program in lecture- and practice-based courses is required. We welcome a range of topics of interest, including theatre and performance intersections with historiography, dramaturgy, interculturalism, social justice and media. Candidates must be able to contribute to the evolution of the curriculum in the direction of applied and community-engaged practices.
The Department of Arts, Culture and Media is a unique multi-disciplinary research and teaching environment, with programs in Art History, Arts Management, Curatorial Studies, Journalism, Media, Journalism and Digital Cultures, New Media Studies, Music and Culture, Studio, and Theatre and Performance Studies: http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/acm/. In addition to being a full member of the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough, the successful candidate will hold a graduate appointment at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies, a graduate unit at the University of Toronto: http://dramacentre.utoronto.ca/. The candidate selected will be expected to maintain a strong program of research and to articulate and implement a vision for developing new research initiatives and relationships that fit within this diverse context.
