The School of Social and Life Sciences at Wrexham Glyndwr University is looking for a dynamic and applied individual to join its innovative academic Sports Department. The Department of Sport has a thriving teaching and research environment with a growing population of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The department delivers a range of high quality degree programmes in the area of Sport & Exercise Sciences, Coaching Science, Football and the Performance Specialist (applied sport science). The department is extending its portfolio provision to include nutrition, health science and physical activity which will address contemporary issues relating to sport and health across an individual’s lifespan. The suitable candidate will be responsible for leading the development of an applied and innovative curriculum which is informed by research and which links external organisations and partners. The successful candidate will lead in their specialist area and be able to demonstrate original research activity through publications, networking and impact.

The Post: An enthusiastic and dynamic specialist is sought to join an innovative and experienced team of academics. The individual will be responsible for the development of an innovative hybrid degree programme in the area of nutrition, health, physical activity and behavioural change. The successful candidate will be required to manage and teach modules relating to sport and health, physical activity across the age range (major emphasis in physical activity in the adulthood and the older person), performance science (applied physiology), behaviour change and contribute to research methods where relevant. The successful individual will support student’s development through the personal tutorials and will supervise undergraduate and post graduate dissertations. S/he will have an emerging track record in applied work / research and will be able to contribute to the developing research profiles of the departments. This post may be of interest to applicants who have a background and passion in the area of nutrition, applied health science, allied health, physical activity across the age range, behavioural change and the innovative use of technology in health related contexts. An ability to understand the holistic approach (multi-disciplinary) to health through the medium of sport will be an advantage.

Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to design and implement innovative approaches to enhancing student learning experience and have knowledge of blended learning. The post-holder will also engage with research, scholarly and enterprise activities in accordance with the Universities strategic framework and participate in wider academic-related activities.
