Detail information about job Research Fellow in Quantitative Ecology. Terms and conditions vacancy

Major objectives in ecology are to understand and forecast population dynamic responses to environmental change. Success requires estimation of key demographic rates and relationships that drive population dynamics in wild populations, but key relationships among survival, dispersal, reproduction and seasonal migration have not yet been quantified.

We seek a Quantitative Ecologist to join a Natural Environment Research Council-funded research project that aims to understand demographic variation and population dynamics arising in partially-migratory systems. The appointed Research Fellow will be responsible for designing and undertaking statistical analyses of a substantial multi-year, multi-site and multi-season ring-resighting dataset to estimate spatio-temporal variation in survival and migration probabilities, and for producing high quality outputs in the form of papers and presentations.

The post provides an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated researcher with skills in sophisticated statistical analysis of mark-recapture data, or of other complex datasets in ecology or evolutionary biology, and interest in linking empirical and theoretical population ecology. It provides opportunities to work within established successful research teams at University of Aberdeen and Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and ample opportunities for further high-level scientific training, publication and career advancement.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale (£32,548- £34,520 per annum), with placement according to qualifications and experience. Consideration will be given to making an appointment at Research Assistant, Grade 5 level in the first instance (£27,285 - £30,688 per annum) for individual in the final stages of completing their PhD.

This post is externally funded by NERC and will be available for 2 years with a preferred start date of 1 March 2018.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Jane Reid, School of Biological Sciences, e-mail: [email protected].

Should you require a visa to undertake paid employment in the UK you will be required to fulfil the minimum points criteria to be granted a Certificate of Sponsorship and Tier 2 visa. As appropriate, at the time an offer of appointment is made you will be asked to demonstrate that you fulfil the criteria in respect of financial maintenance and competency in English. Please do not hesitate to contact [Marian Elliott-Jones, HR Adviser, [email protected]] for further information.
