Academic Section – Essex Abroad

Essex Abroad plays a key role in the University's international work and maintains a large network of international partners.

The Role and duties

We are looking to appoint an efficient and professional individual to fulfil the role of Mobility Agreements & Grants Officer. This role presents an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking to begin a career in international higher education administration.

As an integral part of the Essex Abroad team, the Mobility Agreements & Grants Officer plays a key role in the administration of a variety of funding schemes to support student and staff participating in international exchanges and placements programmes. Additionally, the successful candidate will be tasked with supporting study abroad and exchange partnership management, particularly the coordination of bilateral agreement processes. The role involves working with offices across the University to provide project co-ordination for all operational aspects of partnerships including student and academic records, systems and student services.

Qualifications and skills required

This role requires strong administrative, numerical and IT skills, as you will need to handle large numbers of student and partner queries, funding applications and bilateral agreements with university partners abroad.

The successful candidate will be an effective team player, who can relate well to a wide range of people, including international students and visitors. You will need to show a willingness to learn, and initiative, while working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You must have a flexible approach to work and tasks, be comfortable working in a high paced international environment and computer literate. You will need to able to develop and manage relationships with at all levels within the University, and international university partners. The role requires strong communication and organisational skills, as well as an excellent command of English. You should possess good IT skills including Word, Access, Excel and Outlook. You should also have the ability to work well under pressure whilst maintaining close attention to detail with a calm and professional manner.

The successful candidate will have excellent administrative and organisational skills, be able to deal flexibly with a wide range of responsibilities, and be able to relate well to a wide range of people, including international students and visitors. You will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high standards. You will possess excellent organisational skills and initiative to ensure that the most efficient and effective systems are in place to support achieving the University’s internationalisation objectives. The ability to work independently and as part of a team and to remain calm under pressure are essential.
