About The Role

There is currently an opportunity for a motivated and ambitious researcher, with expertise in solving Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) problems to join the Computational Engineering and Environment Group, within the Scientific Computing Department, at Daresbury Laboratory. The group already has a strong and diverse skill set across various aspects of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and High Performance Computing (HPC) and is now looking to expand its research scope into the solution of industrial and academic FSI problems in order to tackle multi-physics and multi-scale challenges faced by industry and academia.

Ideally you will have demonstrable experience in FSI, through both practical solution of problems as well as through a track record in research around the area.

This role will work with a number of high-profile industrial partners on FSI problems currently of the most importance to them as well as with other scientists within STFC and academia.

You will have a strong computational mechanics background but will be well-versed with fluid dynamics in order to allow you to draw on expertise already within the group and define the solution to a complete FSI problem.

Duties will include:

  • To scope and create solutions to the FSI problems faced by UK industry and academia today
  • To perform proof of principle calculations to establish and demonstrate new scientific capabilities and ideas
  • To attend, and present at, relevant conferences within the UK and internationally.

About You

You should hold, or be about to receive, a Postgraduate Degree (PhD etc.) in a physical science, engineering science, computer science or mathematics.

It is essential that you have knowledge of Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) as a research topic and experience of scientific software development on HPC for FSI problems.

You will have experience of programming in one or more typical scientific languages (C/C++/Fortran) as well as experience of working in Unix/Linux environments.
