Summary
We are offering an exciting opportunity to play a vital support role in one of the biggest and most exciting projects in UK biomedical science in its new central London home, close to St Pancras Station.
The Francis Crick Institute (the Crick) is a research institute, attracting people from all over the world, dedicated to discovering the fundamental biology underlying human health. The new Lab opened in 2016 when science operations moved from founding member sites around London. New positions are available to contribute to the success of the project.
Project Scope/ Description
The Laboratory Operations Assistants are responsible for providing the routine, day-to-day support within laboratories. This includes general laboratory housekeeping and some porterage duties as well as more specialised laboratory tasks. You will work as part of a team reporting to a Laboratory Operations Manager and appropriate training will be given for work within specialised areas. You will have a proven ability to follow agreed procedures but will also be required to work with minimal supervision at times. You will have a pleasant disposition and be able to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of staff from many different backgrounds.
The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.
An independent organisation, its founding partners are the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London.
The Crick was formed in 2015, and in 2016 it moved into a brand new state-of-the-art building in central London which brings together 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility under a single roof in Europe.
The Francis Crick Institute will be world-class with a strong national role. Its distinctive vision for excellence includes commitments to collaboration; to developing emerging talent and exporting it the rest of the UK; to public engagement; and to helping turn discoveries into treatments as quickly as possible to improve lives and strengthen the economy.
The closing date for applications is 12 September 2017 at 23:30 pm.
