This role will be based within Research IT, part of IT Services at The University of Manchester. Research IT is a dynamic and growing group with a remit to develop and support services and infrastructure which are essential to an ever-increasing number of researchers: from modelling atmospheric dynamics to nuclear power stations; from discovery of biomarkers to better target drugs to patients, to simulations of the stock markets; and, recently, 3D visualisation of archaeological digs!

Research IT is soon to begin a partnership with The Digital Experimental Cancer Medicines Team which is part of Cancer Research UK, based at The Christie Hospital, which will focus on research and innovation. (DigitalECMT have a contract with a commercial supplier for production systems.)

You will work alongside research application specialists, research software engineers and, of course other research infrastructure analysts/system administrators. The primary focus will be to work with DigitalECMT, but there will also be opportunities to work on other projects within Research IT and also to help support computational (HPC) and other services — DigitalECMT will receive one FTE, but this will be shared between two or more individuals.

The current DigitalECMT technology stack includes Linux, Apache/Tomcat, Java, Javascript and SQL (Oracle); infrastructure will be developed on the Azure cloud platform. Azure training will be provided.

The post is for a fixed term, starting as soon as possible and is for three years.
