The Chemical Engineering Department at Imperial College London is consistently rated as one of the leading departments in the UK and the world for research in chemical engineering. This world-class research is supported by the Mechanical Workshop which specialises in larger scale projects and offers a wider range of services. The workshop provides useful advice at project conception, assists in equipment design (utilising computer aided design systems) and provides a full range of manufacturing services on a wide range of machinery, including the use of computer controlled (CNC) machines for novel chemical engineering research equipment.
An exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Workshop Technician has arisen in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London. The successful candidate will report to the Mechanical Workshop Manager and assist with the provision, maintenance and daily operation of the Mechanical Workshop. The post holder will have the opportunity to engage with research and teaching teams and collaborate with them.
Applicants should have at least a BTEC HNC or equivalent, with completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship-training scheme. Experience in mechanical engineering workshop design and production, preferably within a research or engineering development environment. Detailed knowledge of mechanical workshop practices and workshop instrumentation
We are looking for a skilled individual who is self-motivated, highly organised and works well as part of a team. The post holder will be working with a wide range of staff, students and visitors, so communication skills are important. The ability to undertake specialised training as required. The post holder will be provided with relevant training and expected to work towards this. He/She will have the opportunity to attend professional development workshops.
