We are seeking a Biobanker to join the Translational Gastroenterology Unit (TGU) Experimental Medicine, Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford. This position involves collecting samples from surgery and endoscopy, overseeing a database containing information and samples derived from the Oxford GI biobank and other relevant cohorts within the gastroenterology department and wider cancer community. The post holder will also work closely with the Oxford Molecular Diagnostics Centre in sample acquisition and consent.

In this post you will provide support to the research scientists in Experimental Medicine and the Kennedy Institute and be part of the Biobanking team. The key duties are listed below and will require some manual handling. Full training will be provided.

The post will involve routine weekly collection of samples obtained from donors for banking and for selected studies within the TGU, national and international studies. You will work closely with postdoctoral fellows in processing of gut samples. You will routinely liaise with a wide range of contacts related to the Biobank, including: members of the biobank team; patients; members of the clinical teams – nursing, surgical, pathology; researchers wishing to seek access to samples. Therefore it is essential that you have good communication and interpersonal skills.

It is essential that you have a degree in biological sciences, nursing or a related subject and be able to demonstrate a familiarity and understanding of relevant laboratory based activities. It is essential that you can demonstrate good time management and organisational skills, including the ability to plan and manage own work schedule as you will have to accommodate unexpected changes and travel between sites in Oxford as dictated by the sample collection and processing schedule.

The post is fixed-term for up to 1 year with potential for extension.
