Are you a skilled communication design researcher who enjoys a creative challenge? Do you want to work on a multidisciplinary project with real-world impact? Are you passionate about visual communication and communication design and the contribution it can make to our health

Project title: ‘Lifting the Lid on Bacteria’

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled communication design researcher to work on an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded project called ‘Lifting the Lid on Bacteria’. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a new pump priming initiative to tackle the problem of drug resistant infections through the use of visual communication. The research project aims to improve hygienic practices within primary schools, using creative ambient visual techniques. It offers the chance to work on a novel design project with real impact potential.

The research team consists of three experienced academics from the University of Leeds and the Glasgow School of Art. As a Research Fellow you will work directly with the Principal Investigator (PI) and the Co-Investigators (CO-Is), conducting literature reviews, devising research methods and running workshops with children. The role also involves contributing to the creative design of an intervention and the evaluation of its success in a school environment. Liaison with external organisations including Eureka! The National Museum for Children and Public Health England will be another key aspect of the project. As such, the role offers an excellent opportunity to build capacity in skills such as grant application writing, varied design research methods, collaborative working and project management. You will benefit from being a Research Fellow in a research-intensive Russell Group University and gaining excellent training and taking part in research colloquia. You will also be able to network with other researchers at the University of Leeds and beyond, within the context of the major initiative to tackle AMR being funded by all the UK’s Research Councils.

With a PhD in a communication design or health communication related area, you will have experience of conducting extensive reviews using a variety of methods and knowledge of participatory design methods or action research.
