Detail information about job Cardiovascular System Lead – MBChB Programme. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited from cardiologists who have an interest in medical education. You will be required to undertake a major role in the organisation and delivery of the cardiovascular aspects of the MBChB curriculum.

It will be expected that you will work with a team of academic staff to implement the curriculum. In addition, you will play a major role in the delivery of University based teaching across the years and contribute to core School activities, such as assessment. You will also be encouraged to participate in pedagogic research projects in medical education, in line with the strategic research interests of the School.

The post has been designed to cover cardiovascular teaching across all 5 years, with a particular focus on Years 1 and 2. You will therefore need to demonstrate knowledge and experience of a variety of teaching methods in order to teach the speciality across the various years. The post is available in the first instance for a tenure of 2 years. This may be renewed for a further period of two years, dependent upon successful integration of the post into the needs of the curriculum.

The Cardiovascular modules, for which you would be responsible for lecture content and co-ordination, including overseeing an online discussion board for the students, run as follows:

  • Year 1 – Starts 8 January 2018 and runs for 3 weeks
  • Year 2 – Starts 19 February 2018 and runs for 4 weeks
  • CBL1 Y3 Acute Coronary Syndrome
  • CBL2 Y3 Hypertension; Atrial Fibrillation & Heart Failure
  • CBL Y4/5 ECGs and tachyarrthymias

There are the specific teaching days and times for year 1 and 2, but availability to support and manage content review, planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching is expected during the whole year. The CBLs in Y3 and Y4/5 are delivered throughout the academic year as the students attend their General Medicine placement on a rotation basis. The sessions are led by senior clinical staff at the Trusts and your involvement will be with the design and evaluation of the learning materials that we provide to the Trusts and liaison with clinical staff involved in their delivery. There are currently 3 CBL sessions, 3 lectures and a discussion board to support in year 3 and 4/5, times vary according to hospital placement.

One PA per week will be provided for the role. However, this is not on a fixed 1 session per week basis as the role requirements vary from week to week in accordance with the blocks of teaching delivery. You would be required to undertake a university approved teaching qualification.
