Detail information about job Research Fellow in Cell Wall Biophysics. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed-term for 2 years due to funding. Due to funding limitations an appointment cannot be made above £32,833 per annum.

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in Cell Wall Biophysics? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK's leading research intensive Universities?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed research fellow to join the interdisciplinary research project ’Unlocking plant intercellular channels: lessons from cell wall molecular biophysics’, funded by the Leverhulme Trust. Based in in the School of Physics and Astronomy, Soft Matter Physics research group you will join a dynamic team formed by Dr Yoselin Benitez-Alfonso (School of Biology), Dr Michael Ries (School of Physics and Astronomy), and Dr Simon Connell (School of Physics and Astronomy), and a number of UK and international research partners.

The aim of the project is to dissect the structure and biophysical properties underlying the regulation and function of plant intercellular channels. Working closely with a Research Fellow in plant biology, you will focus on characterizing the physical properties of cell wall biopolymers that accumulate and regulate intercellular communication in plants and materials made from these. The significance relies on the potential use of this knowledge in plant biotechnology and on the design of new biodegradable, biomimetic, and nanostructured materials.

You will have PhD (or close to completition) in Molecular Biophysics, Soft Matter, Polymer Sciences, or a related discipline. You will have a significant experience in advanced experimental techniques and a strong desire, enthusiasm, and ambition to deliver cutting edge research in a multidisciplinary setting.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences gained a Bronze award in 2014 and submitted an application for a Silver award in April 2017. We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees. Our Athena SWAN webpage provides more information.
