Detail information about job Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Research For Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre in the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a part-time Research Associate to work (0.5 fte) on a project on "Improving Understanding of Complementary Basic Education in Ghana" funded by the Department for International Development.

The aim of the project is to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of Complementary Basic Education (CBE) in Ghana. The CBE programme aims to provide opportunity for out-of-school children to be reintegrated into mainstream public education after nine months of accelerated learning instruction. By targeting out-of-school children, it is expected that this will increase primary enrolment at primary level of children in the areas where CBE is implemented. Using quantitative surveys from data collection on children who have participated in the CBE programme, the post holder will provide quantitative analysis about the learning trajectories of these children, which also includes a quasi-experimental design with a control group. The post holder will also be engaged with the analysis of another survey which aims to collect data on children who graduated from the CBE programme more than four years ago, and hence the aim is to trace back the educational trajectories of these children. The post holder will write drafts of the analysis for both academic and policy audiences, and prepare PowerPoint presentations for these audiences. (S)he will also liaise with other team members in the project and is expected to travel to Ghana.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant subject, and have relevant quantitative research training and experience. You should also have experience in statistical data preparation and analysis including experience of software packages, with a strong understanding of statistical methods and modelling. You should also demonstrate evidence of drafting reports and contributing to writing for publications.

For full details of criteria for appointment and duties of the post please see the Further Particulars for the post.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for up to one year in the first instance.
