Fixed term for up to 15 months

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £29,301 to £38,183. With potential progression once in post to £40,523 a year.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to contribute to the achievement of the School’s research strategy by undertaking specified research activities within an established research programme, and to provide support in the management of the project.

The post holder will carry out research and manufacturing process evaluation to produce functional and structural metallic materials using Selective Laser Melting (SLM). The post is funded through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Innovate UK Quantum Technology Hub at the Advanced Materials and Processing Lab (AMPLab).   

Applicants should have a PhD or EngD in one of the following subjects: Metallurgy and Material Science, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, together with industrial experience in laser processing and metallurgical characterisation. Candidates should be skilled in microstructural characterisation, using analytical SEM, TEM, and understand the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties. Significant experience in CAD modelling is essential together with the ability to communicate complex information clearly. Candidates should demonstrate the capability in delivering world class or international leading research.
