We are seeking to appoint a post-doctoral scientist up to 3 years to work in Professor Polly Roy’s dynamic and productive research laboratory. For more general information on the work of the laboratory, please go here: http://www.lshtm.ac.uk/aboutus/people/roy.polly

The successful applicant will undertake research to fulfil the requirements of a BBSRC project. You will be required to plan and design experiments for undertaking research in the identification of RNA structures, RNA-RNA and RNA-protein interactions during virus replication and assembly using a model double-stranded RNA virus. The research will involve RNA hybridisation and structural analysis, SHAPE technique and CLIP-Seq method. The work will require multidisciplinary approaches, including various biochemical and biophysical techniques, biochemical assays, site-specific mutagenesis techniques, virus growth and purification. Highly specific skills are necessary for the role and strong background knowledge in these techniques is essential.

The post requires in-depth background knowledge and expertise in RNA structure, protein purification and molecular biology of RNA viruses. Experience in reverse genetics system of RNA viruses will be useful. Applicants must have a PhD in either Biochemistry or Molecular Virology with strong background in RNA biochemistry and should be highly motivated researchers who wish to make an impact in research. The post is funded by the BBSRC until 31st March 2020 in the first instance and is available from 1st October 2017. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 6 scale in the range £38,533 to £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
