Contract: Maternity Cover - 9 Months

Join us and become part of the most engaged workforce of any NHS trust in England, according to the latest national NHS Staff Survey results – for the second year running.

You will be joining a dynamic and forward-looking organisation in the heart of the capital where you can develop your career and broaden your horizons.

We think you will enjoy working for us but you don’t have to take our word for it – 79% of staff who took part in the latest national NHS Staff Survey would recommend Guy’s and St Thomas’ as a place to work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at Guys and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London, for a Research Manager to support the Advanced Therapeutics and Experimental Medicine Cluster (focusing on experimental medicine and novel therapeutics). This is a one year, fixed-term maternity cover. As such it is an excellent opportunity to gain both operational and research management skills. Our BRC is funded by the National Institute of Health Research to help establish the UK's translational biomedical research infrastructure. With embedded world class Research Platform, a range of hosted research organisations and partnerships with industry, this represents the foundation for London’s premier biomedical cluster. The NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Guy's Hospital specialises in the investigation of new medicines in man that are being developed by BRC investigators. Translational research is at the heart of the BRC; we have a strong development pipeline including a number of exploratory trials in areas of significant unmet medical need, e.g. immunomodulatory cell therapies, innovative peptides for type I diabetes, novel antibodies targeting intractable cancers.

In this varied role, the Deputy Research Manager will have responsibility for delivering high quality administrative and general operational management and will be part of a team of managers undertaking such roles within the BRC. The role also incorporates line management, finance management, performance management and responsibility for overseeing a portfolio of clinical trial projects that include first-in-man and early Phase experimental medicine studies, Phase II studies as well as observational studies of novel therapeutic approaches and imaging agents in vivo in man.

Reporting to the Senior Translational Research Portfolio Manager, this is a unique opportunity for a highly-motivated individual to gain significant experience working with an inspiring translational portfolio of novel therapeutics and diagnostics. This one year, fixed-term post will suit individuals seeking operational and/or research management experience with a background in project management; in management in the context of the pharmaceutical industry; in management in the research and health service industries.Interview date: TBC
