Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the laboratory of Professor Hans Stauss and Professor Emma Morris in the Institute of Immunity & Transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital.

The Institute of Immunity & Transplantation is within UCL’s Division of Infection & Immunity. There are more than 12 immunology research groups at the Institute with more than 60 postdoctoral researchers and PhD Students. Work at the Institute aims to translate advances in the understanding of the immune system into improved therapies for patients. We are looking for a committed postdoctoral scientist with expertise in molecular biology and gene therapy. The post will offer the opportunity to take responsibility for a defined research project using genetic engineering technologies to improve T cell therapy. We offer mentoring and provide active support to promote the career development of junior scientists.

This post is funded by a research grant from Cell Medica and is available for two years in the first instance.

Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent experience)(or equivalent degree) or about to be awarded a PhD in a relevant subject, as well as significant experience in molecular biology. 

Experience with retro and lentiviral vectors for gene therapy is essential as well as familiarity with software packages for molecular biology. Experience with animal models of T cell transfer is desirable.

The postholders will be expected to perform high quality research as part of a well-established research team under the direction of Professors Stauss and Morris.

The successful candidates will also be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing and ideally have experience of drafting and submitting academic papers for peer reviewed publication.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD (or having the equivalent experience); if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £30,316 - £31,967 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of PhD Thesis.
