Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences

Location: City South Campus

Interview Date: Wednesday 4th October 2017

The Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences at Birmingham City University is seeking an exceptional candidate to support a period of unprecedented growth and development. Birmingham City University is investing £41 Million in a purpose built facility at City South Campus in Edgbaston to enable the University to offer a wide range of new courses in the areas of health, life sciences and sport.

We are seeking to add to our academic department with an innovative and passionate lecturer who will support the wide range of curricula within the Department of Sport and Exercise and contribute to the School, Faculty and University’s strategic priorities.

The newly formed Department of Sport and Exercise has developed a range of new academic programmes at UG and PG level, including a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science. The post holder’s role will be to contribute to the delivery of sport and exercise science-related modules across our suite of programmes and take an active role in the development of course material and project supervision.  We are seeking someone who is passionate about teaching and research and who can inspire students to succeed.

The successful candidate must have a relevant post-graduate qualification and ideally have completed a PhD (or be near completion). The post holder will be responsible for supporting the programme leaders in co-ordinating and supporting learning experiences (work based learning) in the sports industry to four BSc Programmes: Sport and Exercise Science, Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Sports Therapy, and PE and School Sport. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to teaching delivery across one or more of these programmes in addition to co-ordinating the placements and visits. Given that this is an academic role, previous experience of working in Higher Education is preferred, however those individuals with significant experience of working in elite sport or clinical/health settings will also be considered as the post holder will be responsible for leading on the departments work-based learning modules.
