Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Terms and conditions vacancy

This post is available from 2 January 2018 for twelve months in the NIHR South West Peninsula Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (PenCLAHRC)'s Evidence Synthesis Team.

The University of Exeter is a Russell Group university that combines world-class research with very high levels of student satisfaction. Exeter has over 21,000 students from more than 130 different countries and is in the top 1% of universities in the world with 98% of its research rated as being of international quality. Our research focuses on some of the most fundamental issues facing humankind today.

The post

The post is part of a project funded by Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) to conduct a systematic review to identify the key characteristics, components and processes that should be included in parent to parent support programs for parents of babies cared for in neonatal care settings, whilst on the unit and after discharge home. The applicant will lead a systematic review of quantitative and qualitative literature to provide a state-of-the-evidence summary to support the NHS and other stakeholders to inform practice in the neonatal context for the benefit of families and to inform future research.

About you

Applicants with knowledge and understanding of neonatal care or health services related evidence synthesis, or both, will be particularly welcome. The successful applicant will be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. As well as guiding and conducting the review, the role will involve liaising with lay and professional members of the project advisory group, organising a one day impact conference with national neonatal networks, as well as identifying appropriate ways to disseminate the results of the project.

The successful applicant will have a good understanding of and experience in evidence synthesis. Within the wider team there are particular interests in developing methods for evidence synthesis as applied to public health practice and complex interventions and in using realist synthesis methods and there may be scope to develop skills in these areas.  Applicants will possess a relevant PhD in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Additionally, at Research Fellow level, the successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies.
