Detail information about job Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

Faculty: Organisation Work & Technology

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced social scientist to work within a pan-European research programme and network. You will be based at Lancaster University and will contribute to the Mobile-Age project (Delivering open and personalised mobile access to public services for senior citizens), a Horizon 2020 innovation project led by Lancaster University and involving 9 other partners (Website: mobile-age.eu). The programme is funded by the European Commission under the Societal Challenges Programme (INSO-1-2015: ICT enabled open government).

Work on the research project includes direct contact with older adults, local government staff and staff working in local NGOs in the South Lakeland area as key study stakeholders. Mobile-Age uses a co-creation approach to address the challenge of developing relevant and meaningful digital public services with and for older citizens and makes them as useful and relevant as possible. Co-creation takes a situated-practice based approach when defining, designing and implementing services for an ageing population. Methodologies include reviewing literature, organising and leading focus groups and workshops, in-depth face to face interviews, impact assessment and project evaluation. Dissemination and exploitation activities are also key to the success of the project.

Within the research team you will take a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering the research project while having a flexible working style to respond to project needs and timelines. You will demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative when faced with challenges, and will work collaboratively with wider team members and colleagues.

The post offers opportunities for career development and contributions to the intellectual life of a thriving Horizon 2020 research project within a top 10 UK University. There are also opportunities to travel to research sites and meetings across Europe.

The post is available on a fixed term contract for the duration of the programme (until 31 January 2019) with a start date as soon as possible. We may also consider applications for an 80% Post.

Please direct informal enquiries to Professor Niall Hayes, email: [email protected]
