An exciting position has become available to aid the running of the busy, expanding facilities in the Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre Cell Phenotyping Hub, based at Addenbrooke's Hospital in E6. The BRC Cell Phenotyping Hub is a central shared flow cytometry and imaging laboratory resource of the Clinical School. It is equipped with state-of-the-art-specialist cytomics equipment  including multiple sorters and analysers, magnetic separator, two confocal and an epifluorescence microscope, laser capture microscope, cellomics high content array scan and other kits.

The role of the post holder will be to aid in the provision a smooth and reliable specialist cytomics and phenotyping service to researchers on Campus. They will be supporting different teams working on various research projects, thereby making a significant contribution to translational biomedical research at University of Cambridge. Apart from advanced multi-colour cell sorting and analysis of human cells and contribution to training and teaching activities, the post holder will be responsible for routine maintenance of the machines, some health and safety guidance and general laboratory organisation. 

The successful candidate must have experience in flow cytometry (Becton Dickinson instruments) and/or imaging or in tissue culture and cell and immunological methods, preferably in both. Experience of operating complex biomedical equipment, the ability or aptitude to learn advanced technologies and troubleshoot problems as well as team ability, flexible approach to work when required and readiness to work to the lab operational pattern are essential criteria. The lab operates late/night shifts for clinical service according to rota (covering 8am -11 pm) and the post will require frequent late shift work and occasional weekend work. They will have a qualification in a relevant scientific subject and have experience of scientific work in biomedical laboratory and be cleared for working with human blood and tissue.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2022 in the first instance.
