Grade 8: £39,992 - £47,772 with a discretionary range to £52,132 p.a.

We are seeking a Senior Neurobiologist/Team Leader with a strong motivation to forge a career in translational science and drug discovery. You will be instrumental in expanding and managing the ODDI activities onto a second site within the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (DPAG). This will be an exciting and demanding role in which the successful applicant will become a pivotal member of the Biology team. You will have the opportunity to interact closely with other academic and pharmaceutical research groups and influence the direction of the ODDI. The primary role is to validate the role of targets in cellular mechanisms hypothesised to play a role in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease and to discover the starting points for the next generation of drugs for dementia. You will be expected to be hands-on as well as to line manage a small group of neurobiologists.

The successful applicant will have postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience establishing complex cellular models utilising  primary and/or iPSC derived neurons and glia, and a track record of delivery in the field of neuroscience preclinical research, as measured by a strong publication record or success within a pharmaceutical setting. Up to date knowledge of recent research in the neurodegeneration field is necessary as well as an open mind to test novel hypothesis. Furthermore, experience in team work and project leadership is essential. Supervision and line-management experience is also required, in combination with excellent communication skills. You will be expected to provide support to the Head of Biology, represent the ODDI in collaborative interactions, at conferences and outreach programmes.

This full-time position is fixed-term until 30 August 2020.
