The Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres. It is core funded by Cancer Research UK and supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies.

The Beatson aims to establish a platform to ease analysis, integration and visualisation of large-scale datasets generated from multi-disciplinary research at the institute, including proteomics, metabolomics, genomics, imaging and high throughput screening.

Our goal is to facilitate researchers to develop multi-disciplinary projects to build up higher levels of understanding of biological systems recapitulating tumour development and speed up the progress of our research.

We are seeking an enthusiastic bioinformatician skilled in analysing large scale biological data sets who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary environment, can provide support in solving complex biological problems relating to cancer biology and contribute to developing cross-platform data analyses that enable integration of large-scale datasets generated by modern -omics and imaging technologies.

The ideal candidate will also have a flair for data-representation and be passionate about using and developing innovative ways to better communicate multilevel data with scientists. 

The successful applicant will ideally have all or most of the following:

  • Post-graduate degree (PhD or MSc) in bioinformatics, computer science or life sciences.
  • Some experience in biomedical research, functional proteomics or genomics, modelling biological systems
  • Experience in integrating data from multiple platforms.
  • Knowledge of statistics.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in relevant programming languages and operating system (e.g. Linux/Unix).
  • Experience in data visualisation.
  • Experience in database creation and administration.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to work in an inter-disciplinary research environment.
