Detail information about job B85589A - Lecturer in Architectural Technologies. Terms and conditions vacancy

Salary: Grade F: £34,520 - £38,833 per annum             Grade G: £39,992 - £47,722 per annumNewcastle University’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape is one of the most successful and longest-established schools of its kind in the UK, ranked 4th in the UK on Research Intensity in REF 2014, scored ‘Gold’ in the recent UK TEF exercise and approaching its centenary in 2022. Its graduates include Alison and Peter Smithson, Terry Farrell and Eric Parry. The School is undergoing a period of significant investment in staff appointments and School infrastructure, including additional colleagues and a substantial new workshop and studio building just completed. The architectural research culture in Newcastle – conducted through Architectural Research Collaborative (ARC) – is spirited and energetic, encompassing design research, live projects, history, theory, practice, new materials, experimental architecture and architectural science and technology. This research accompanies long-established undergraduate (BA) and graduate studio courses (MArch, MA Architecture, Planning and Landscape). Studio units at BA and MArch are diverse and speculative, yet grounded, and the quality of student work has been recognised in numerous recent awards: RIBA President’s Medals (most recently the 2016 Bronze Medal), RIBA Hadrian Medals and various international student competitions. The School consistently attracts students of the best calibre from around the world. Candidates will have research and teaching potential in one or more areas of architectural technology, for example: design for manufacturing, design for computation, digital fabrication, building information modelling, new materials (or new applications of materials), sustainability and/or new or specialist structures. You will be research active and able to produce high quality research within their disciplinary expertise at a good standard for submission to the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF). Teaching will be primarily on the programmes in architecture and it is essential that the successful applicant can demonstrate excellence in architectural technology teaching and can contribute to developing and enhancing the School’s reputation for excellence in this area. You will be expected to lead and deliver technology modules within the core professional programmes in architecture, and/or specialist postgraduate programmes, and ideally also able to contribute to design studio teaching. For informal enquiries, please contact Prof. Prue Chiles, Acting Director of Architecture (+44 (0) 191 208 3403, [email protected]), or Prof. Adam Sharr, Head of School (+44 (0) 191 208 7832, [email protected]). The University holds a silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of our good employment practices for the advancement of gender equality, and the University holds the HR Excellence in Research award for our work to support the career development of our researchers. We are also a member of the Euraxess network.   Please be advised that due to a new minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UKVI, this post may not qualify for University sponsorship under Tier 2 of the points based system.
