Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions, a member of the elite Russell Group of UK universities and ranked joint 9th in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.

The School of Mathematical Sciences is one of the largest UK mathematical science departments and is one of five schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Queen Mary. The School is entering an exciting period of strategic growth with significant investment in new posts over the next three years across a broad range of disciplines. In addition to academic appointments, approximately £20 million is being invested in the School’s building to provide state-of-the-art research, teaching and study facilities for staff and students.

As part of this investment, QMUL is seeking a Professor of Mathematics to help progress the School’s ambitions and research strengths. The post-holder is expected to provide inspirational research leadership in the Mathematical Sciences and will have a proven track record in research income generation and research achievements of international stature demonstrated through publications, as well as the ability and flexibility to teach across a range of topics in mathematics at various levels. Applications are invited from candidates in any area of mathematical sciences, with particular interest in Statistics, Mathematical Biology, Number Theory, Algebra, Optimisation & Operations Research and Statistical Machine Learning. Applicants whose work has had a significant impact outside of the university environment are particularly encouraged to apply.

The post is a full-time, permanent post based in London.

Professorial salary will be by negotiation within the professorial range.
