Short Introduction/Summary
We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work on a collaborative project between the Cancer Systems Biology Lab at the Francis Crick Institute (Lead: Francesca Ciccarelli) and the Target Selection Team at Astra Zeneca UK (Lead: Paul Smith). The collaboration involves a multi-disciplinary efforts including cancer biology, computational genomics and chemistry. Extensive experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques and a solid knowledge of cancer genetics are required.
Project Scope/ Description
This research project aims to discover synthetic gene dependencies that can be exploited to develop innovative treatments for colorectal cancer. Dr Ciccarelli’s team has long-standing experience in identifying synthetic dependencies between genes that undergo cancer-specific inactivation and their functional compensators (D’Antonio Cell Reports 2013; Benedetti Oncotarget 2017).
Building on the synergistic collaboration between the Ciccaellli lab and the Target Selection Team at AstraZeneca, this project aims to (1) prioritise synthetic dependencies with the highest potential of being therapeutically relevant for cancer and (2) validate them with a variety of approaches in established and primary cancer cell lines. The post holder will be responsible for both these aims, namely the selection of the best candidates and their experimental validation as potential drug targets.
