Do you have sound experience in employee relations (ER) for a large organisation? Are you passionate about delivering a professional ER advisory and case management service for a diverse group of people?

Joining the professional, friendly and supportive ER team at the University of Kent, you will put to use your HR expertise and strong communication skills to advise staff across all levels of the organisation. This is a fast-paced environment with a high level of email, telephone and face-to-face contact so you will need excellent interpersonal skills.

This position is offered on a part time basis (between 2 and 4 days per week, days negotiable) for a fixed term period until 31 December 2017. Ideally, you must be able to start immediately.

As Employee Relations Adviser you will:

  • in close collaboration with the HR Business Partner, lead on the resolution of all employee relations matters;
  • provide professional and timely advice, guidance and coaching to designated managers and where necessary, staff members;
  • develop and maintain a good knowledge and understanding of the business and practices of the University.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • recent HR experience gained in an employee focused role or function;
  • experience of providing expert HR guidance and support to organisational managers;
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The Employee Relations and Business Partnering team in Human Resources is the key and initial point of access to HR for the University schools and professional service departments and act as a hub, drawing in expertise from the other HR teams and making referrals as appropriate. The team members work collaboratively to deliver HR services in support of business needs and will lead on all employee relations, immigration and organisational change matters.

The Business Partners work closely with specific portfolios of the University, working with the senior leaders to develop a people agenda that closely supports the overall aims of the portfolio and help to achieve the Wider University Strategy.

The Employee Relations Advisers support the Business Partners by providing dedicated support to designated portfolios, providing advice and support to managers and staff on matters relating to dealing with people.
