Detail information about job Researchers. Terms and conditions vacancy

Purpose and Main DutiesWe seek to appoint two Researchers on the Reading Peer Review project. The project, entitled ‘Reading Peer Review,’ will analyse the role of peer review in the research cycle to develop better ways of using expert opinion to assess and improve the literature available. It will investigate the peer review database at PLOS ONE, the largest scientific journal in the world. The reports, which will be strictly anonymised and treated as confidential, will be examined using a range of close-reading, distant-reading and stylometric approaches.

The Researchers will primarily be responsible for tagging a text corpus of peer-review reports and coordinating between themselves, and colleagues in Canada, to ensure consistency of tagging. Specific duties will include reading peer review reports and marking them up with both section tags (i.e. “methodology” for a sentence that comments on methodology) and sentiment (-10 for terrible and +10 for extremely positive). There will be an initial training period followed by independent working and coordination among the group.

Candidates will need an understanding of academic peer review. Experience of writing or reading reports would be beneficial, but is not required. The job will require a patient individual who appreciates attention to detail.
