About CLYZ Labs
CLYZ Labs Ltd is a biotechnology R&D company developing UK’s first personalised cancer chemosensitivity testing service laboratory. The company is developing a 3D cell culture system based assay to determine the most appropriate choice of chemotherapy for cancer patients. The company is initially focused upon development of a chemosensitivity test for lung cancer.
Our laboratory is located at The Heath, Runcorn, which houses a range of companies in the biomedical, health & life science and chemistry sectors. The Heath is conveniently located near to Liverpool, Manchester and Warrington and is in close proximity to the M62 and M56 motorways. Runcorn mainline station, with connections to London Euston, Liverpool and Crewe. The Heath is well serviced with buses and a large on-site car park is available. A restaurant, gym and fitness centre is also located on site.
Role
We are seeking a talented cell biologist to undertake optimisation and validation of our 3D cell culture based system to support development of our chemosensitivity assay testing service. It will involve working in our new research laboratory facility at The Heath, Runcorn. The hours of work are flexible and can be tailor-made around a candidate’s lifestyle.
The opportunity offers the ability to conduct research in a non-academic institution and be part of a pioneering project of creating the UK’s first chemosensitivity laboratory. Attractive Performance bonus (in addition to salary) could be negotiated for a right candidate.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Establish primary cell culture from biopsies, passaging, expansion, cell banking, and inventory management
- Optimise protocols for 3D cell culture from primary cells
- Perform classical cell survival/death staining
- Perform essential lab duties including preparing buffers, reagents and media, maintaining lab supplies and supporting other functions in Cell Biology
The ideal candidate will have:
- BSc in biological sciences or related discipline with at least 2 years relevant laboratory experience. PhD is desirable.
- Experience of 3D cell culture is essential.
- Broad experience of cell culture and tissue processing techniques
- Broad experience in cell biology techniques, especially cell cycle/cell death assays
- The ability to work independently in the laboratory and plan own work with the ability to deliver work on specification and on time
- Innovative and willing to test new technologies
- Excellent organisational and record keeping skills
- Capable of multi-tasking and good time management
- Good oral and written communication skills
