We are seeking a new colleague to lead a world-class hub in functional thin film growth for device structures by establishing an internationally recognised experimental research programme. As an exceptional academic with a track record of the highest quality research in the area of the physical deposition of thin films, you are invited to apply.

This post is associated with the Atoms to Devices core research area of the Henry Royce Institute (HRI) for Advanced Materials at Imperial College London. You will be supported with purpose-built laboratory space at Imperial’s new White City Campus and a generous capital equipment budget to expand our current shared facility.

You will be joining a vibrant and exciting department that enjoys an ethos of collaboration and is recognised as world-leading with strong international links. You will be expected to:

  • attract and supervise high-quality PhD students and supervise postdoctoral research staff
  • publish papers in leading peer-reviewed journals
  • disseminate research findings at international conferences
  • seek and obtain external research funding
  • contribute to the Department’s outstanding teaching programmes
  • interact with scientists and engineers from other departments across Imperial and the HRI, as well as to develop external collaborations both nationally and internationally.

You will possess a PhD degree (or equivalent) in physical sciences, engineering or a related discipline. You will be able to provide evidence of an international reputation including an outstanding publication record, a track record of securing major research funding and experience of teaching undergraduate students. Ability to lead a shared facility, or evidence of potential to do so through success in setting up a substantial experimental laboratory are also essential.
