Together our staff and students are discovering innovative ways to change the world for the better and there has never been a more exciting time for you to join us. We are ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide and have an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are led by discovery and innovation, with the synergy between research and learning at the core of our activity.
As the Chief Executive Officer and part of the senior management team you will lead and develop a series of linked Science Parks that extends the University’s mission to drive research and knowledge; with a particular focus on aligning with government goals around the Industrial Strategy as well as the Midlands Engine Strategy.
More specifically, we are looking to achieve excellence in three areas of endeavour: space and earth observation research; life sciences with a particular focus on biomedical sciences; and automotive engineering, particularly around autonomous connected vehicles. These science parks will be completely integrated into the University’s core research and teaching mission in order to promote industry connectivity and enterprise engagement; and will deliver impact through research as well as the most up to date research-led teaching. Space Park Leicester, which has recently attracted £25M funding, will be the centrepiece of our new science park and will be delivered in close collaboration with the City and our local enterprise partnership.
To succeed in this role, you will bring extensive leadership experience to drive the delivery of a connected, distributed Leicester Science Park at the core of the University’s mission. You will also be a strong relationship manager with relevant experience in creating new business and funding opportunities. You will have a significant track record in leading and implementing strategy across large complex organisations and managing complex change programmes.
You will also have experience of working within a scientific/technical discipline and a significant track record of leading relationships with a range of small and large businesses, preferably within those fields; together with experience of financial management of substantial projects.
