Additional funding up to £ 2,000 per year will be available for personal development.
Knowledge Exchange Research Fellow to undertake a specified range of research activities within the area of thermal energy storage devices and processes. The focus of the research is on the use of latent heat thermal storage and thermochemical energy storage, develop high-efficiency low-cost thermal storage devices and optimally integrate them into energy systems comprising both domestic and industrial processes.
The fellow will undertake collaborative research, engaging with businesses in the Energy sector with the aim to translate knowledge into the development of new technologies. The fellow will have therefore the opportunity to directly collaborate with SMEs through direct meetings, workshops and research activities.
The post holder will join Birmingham Centre for Energy Storage (BCES), a cross University of Birmingham initiative involving researchers from chemical engineering, electrical engineering, materials and metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering and the business disciplines. BCES was established under the support of the UK Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the eight great technologies initiative (www.birmingham.ac.uk/energystorage) and more recently benefited from an investment of the UK government under the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) programme (www.era.ac.uk).
The School of Chemical Engineering is a very dynamic department and it has about 125 staff, 250 postgraduate students and 700 undergraduate students. Person Specification:
- First or 2:1 Degree and PhD in mechanical engineering/chemical engineering/energy engineering or science discipline closely related to the main duties
- Strong background in heat transfer, mass transfer, fluid flow
- A strong capability in modelling heat transfer, mass transfer, fluid flow
- Experience in experimental heat and mass transfer, and in design of experimental thermal systems
- Demonstrable track record in the areas closely related to the main research duties
