Detail information about job Lecturer in Respiratory Science. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Institute of Inflammation and Ageing wish to appoint a lecturer in respiratory science who will complement and enhance the spectrum of research at both a basic and translational level within the respiratory group. The respiratory research portfolio at Birmingham covers a broad spectrum of acute and chronic inflammatory respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, sepsis and COPD as well as ageing of the immune system. There is an active research interest in primary cell biology - lung epithelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts and neutrophils as well as animal models of lung disease.

The purpose of this post is, with the support of Professor David Thickett and Dr Elizabeth Sapey, to enable the post holder to develop as an independent researcher in respiratory science/inflammation. We intend to include acute and chronic inflammatory lung diseases in our renewal bid for our NIHR BRC in Inflammation in 2021. The successful applicant will ideally have relevant experience of inflammation biology, lung senescence and / or animal models of lung disease. However we would be interested in applications from different disciplines of relevance to our research portfolio.

The post holder will be expected to create and disseminate knowledge through initiating, finding funding for and conducting original research. The post holder will be expected to disseminate knowledge through publication and through developing and delivering undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD programmes. In addition, the post holder will contribute to the institute through management/leadership, and enterprise activities, as appropriate.

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £39,324 to £46,924. With potential progression once in post to £52,793 a year.
