In December 2016, it was announced that UCL had been selected as the 'hub' of the new £250m UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), to be led by Professor Bart De Strooper. The UK DRI is a joint £250m investment into dementia research led by the Medical Research Council (MRC) alongside founding charity partners Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Applications are invited for Programme Leaders (Professors) in the UCL DRI Hub from dedicated individuals with a flair for innovation who will contribute across the UK DRI as well as within the DRI at UCL. The post holders will direct an internationally competitive research programme within the UK DRI relevant to the area of neurodegeneration, with the ultimate aim of improving human health, and will draw on the knowledge and expertise of other colleagues both within and outside the UK DRI through collaborative inputs and team working. The UK DRI is looking to transform the field of dementias research and welcomes scientists from all disciplines. In addition, £3 million UK DRI Programme Funding will be provided to each Professor over 5 years.
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject, have been recognised for quality of research by national and/or international awarding bodies, and be proactive and creative independent thinkers, able to lead people within a research programme group in an inspiring manner and build them into an excellent research team, and to take critical and timely decisions. Proven scientific leadership, a proven track record of internationally competitive scientific research relevant to the UK DRI core programme, a strong record of publications in high impact journals, with emphasis on quality, experience of planning and developing projects or programmes of research, and a record of being awarded competitive grants, are essential.
The posts are available from April 2018. Starting salary will be on the UCL Non Clinical Professorial scale, dependent on achievements, qualifications and experience, with minimum salary £67,885 per annum, including London Allowance, superannuable; a competitive salary will be available to exceptional candidates.
