A clinical research fellow is required for studies of Small Vessel Diseases in stroke and dementia. The post is funded by the Medical Research Council as part of the UK Dementia Research Initiative (DRI). The studies address mechanisms of brain damage in Small Vessel Diseases and the clinical impact using advanced MRI neuroimaging, systemic vascular function, cognitive and clinical assessment tools.

This is a unique opportunity for a future clinical academic to gain research training experience in a world-leading clinical research environment for cerebrovascular diseases and obtain a PhD. You will be based in the Small Vessel Diseases Research Group (Prof Joanna Wardlaw) linked with the Edinburgh Dementia Research Centre in the University of Edinburgh (one of five Centres in the UK DRI), and with exceptional UK and international collaborative networks on Small Vessel Diseases working on projects funded through Fondation Leducq, EU Horizon 2020, Stroke Association, plus the LACI-2 trial funded by BHF. The newly formed UK DRI brings together basic, clinical and social science under a single organizational structure to lead research into prevention of all causes of dementia at a global level.

Candidates should demonstrate clear motivation towards research, have a good medical degree, full registration with the GMC, MRCP or equivalent, a clear interest in small vessel diseases in stroke and dementia and interest in undertaking a PhD.  You should have excellent organisational skills, good oral and written communication skills, and be able to work flexibly in a large multi-disciplinary international team.
