Particle Physics Research Centre

The Particle Physics Research Centre (PPRC) in the School of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary, University of London has a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on the ATLAS Level 1 Calorimeter Trigger and its upgrades at the LHC.

The PPRC is actively involved in the operation and optimisation of the current system and on the phase-I and phase-II trigger upgrades. The successful applicant will be expected to make significant contributions in this area as well as participating in data analysis and supporting our graduate students. The group is heavily involved in precision Standard Model measurements, Higgs physics, and SUSY/Dark Matter searches.

Applicants should have, or be about to gain, a PhD in experimental particle physics and are expected to have significant experience of active participation in a leading particle physics experiment. Strong hardware skills and good knowledge of C++ and python are essential.

The post is full time, available from 1st October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. It is funded by the STFC Consolidated grant until 30th November 2019 with the possibility of extension, subject to the availability of funds. The starting salary will be in the range £32,405 - £40,182 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan. The post will be located at Queen Mary University of London and will require travel to other UK institutes, to CERN, and abroad.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
