Detail information about job Clinical Studies Officer - Gut, Microbes and Health. Terms and conditions vacancy

An exciting full-time opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Studies Officer to join the Quadram Institute to lead and develop clinical research studies aimed at investigating the role of gut microbes in human health across the life course.

Background:

This post is based within the Gut Microbes and Health (GMH) research programme within the Quadram Institute (QI). This large research programme aims to provide mechanistic knowledge of the role played by gut microbes (microbiota) at critical periods during early life and during normal healthy ageing, in order to develop strategies for improving lifelong health and wellbeing. The programme comprises eight research groups underpinned by two longitudinal studies in a stable and well-defined East Anglian population: pregnant mothers, infants and ageing/elderly cohorts.

The Role:

We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic and highly skilled individual to lead on the administrative set-up, maintenance and conclusion of the two longitudinal population based studies. The position involves being able to understand and work to clinical study protocols in biomedical research and having an understanding of their application in practice.

The post holder will work closely with members of the QI-based Norfolk and Norwich NHS University Hospital Endoscopy Unit and the Clinical Research Facility. The post holder will serve as the main contact point for all internal and external parties involved in the set-up, maintenance and conclusion of both longitudinal studies. They will be a key member of the team working to ensure that patient recruitment and sample procurement and processing targets are met, and that any bottlenecks are identified and resolved to ensure that downstream work progresses as planned. The role also involves line managing research technicians.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will hold a first degree, or equivalent, in a healthcare related field, or possess significant experience commensurate with the role. They will have proven, substantial experience of successfully conducting research in the past, and an understanding of local and national research regulations.

The ability to work well under pressure is essential, as are excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with service users, carers and all levels of NHS staff. The post holder will be able to work closely within a supportive team, but will also be a strong independent performer, with the ability to understand and meet targets.

Additional Information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £38,520 to £47,080 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This post is for a contract of four years in the first instance.
