Job DescriptionThe European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).
The Administrator of the Developmental Biology Unit will work closely with the Head of Unit to support the organisational aspects of the unit. S/he will provide administrative support to all groups in the unit. This includes making travel arrangements, scheduling and organising meetings and seminars, keeping and writing minutes of meetings, as well as organising the logistics of newcomers and visiting scientists. (S)he will also interact with the general administration at EMBL and be responsible for correspondence and reports for the Head of Unit.
Qualifications and ExperienceThe post requires secretarial, administrative and organisational skills, discretion and respect of confidentiality, perfectionism and willingness to pay attention to detail while being able to carry out multiple tasks in parallel, and a natural ability to deal with many people of different nationalities in a friendly manner. The ideal candidate will have relevant education, training and work experience, preferably in an international or scientific environment. Fluency in written and spoken English and German is required, and a very good working knowledge of French would be ideal. Strong skills in commonly used office software are required, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet browsers, E-mail. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, with a demonstrated track record of working well in a team environment, while having an independent and motivated attitude.
