Applications are invited for a Research Associate in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, UCL Institute of Neurology, to work on a project to study genetic and biomarker aspects of diagnosis and progression in tauopathy. The post is based at Queen Square.
The post holder will be responsible for the generation, analysis and interpretation of genetic and biomarker data primarily from PSP in patients studied in the PROSPECT study. Active projects include the analysis of Neurofilament, Total and Phospho-Tau in relation to disease progression, the development of tau fragment analysis in CSF, and the analysis of 3R/4R tau ratios in CSF.
Applicants must have an Honours degree (min 2:1), and a PhD, in Neuroscience, Genetics, Biology or a related discipline; further training in bioinformatics is desirable. Experience of generating and working with ELISA/Western blot and high throughput Proteomic and/or Genetic (SNP, Exome, Genome, Expression) data, and of biological/statistical analysis of proteomic and/or genetic data using publically available databases and software such as R, STATA, SPSS is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills and good inter-personal skills are also required.
The post is available from September 2017 and is funded for one year in the first instance by a grant from the PSP Association. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7 in the range £34,056 - £36,923 per annum, including London Allowance, superannuable.
