The School of Applied Social Studies comprises senior academics and senior practitioners who together produce high quality education, training and research. The recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) identified more than three-quarters of the School’s research in child and family welfare, crime, young people and social exclusion, and law and social policy, as world leading placing us in the top quartile for social work and social policy research. We are an active and growing community of scholars, teachers and researchers who work collaboratively in sustaining the highest standards of pedagogy relevant to applied policy and practice in the human services.

The post holder will form part of an established team delivering academic and professional courses in a range of subjects within the School. This particular post holder should be equipped to take on the role of lead for the professional body, the HCPC, known as the Head of Social Work, and will also act as portfolio leader for professional courses in social work and related areas. In addition, all principal lecturers are expected to be evidence-based reflective educational practitioners committed to enhancing teaching and learning at the University. The successful applicant will have significant experience of social work practice, have a formal social work qualification and be registered with the HCPC.  They will also have experience of co-ordinating aspects of social work education from within either an HE or professional context.

The University has a strong reputation for social work education and, with our partners, is always at the forefront of new developments. There is already excellent performance all round in the School’s professional practice courses and the post holder will be building on strong foundations from the start.

Due to the Home Office and UK Visas & Immigration requirements on immigration and Right to Work in the UK, the University of Bedfordshire can only accept job applications from Non EEA applicants who hold a current Tier 1 or Tier 2 (in country) visa and their status allows them to work and reside in the UK with no restrictions.
