School of Informatics

The School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh invites applications for a full-time, fixed term Research Associate position in the area of multilingual speech recognition. The post will be part of the H2020 SUMMA project (summa-project.eu), and involves close collaboration with both research and user partners, including the BBC and Deutsche Welle.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the project for the development and improvement of broadcast speech recognition systems across a number of different languages, including some relatively low-resource languages. The post will include the development of acoustic and language models, with attention paid to issues including automatic addition of new words to the vocabulary and language model, domain adaptation, lightly supervised acoustic models, and combining speech recognition with machine translation systems.

The role is thus expected to involve working with state-of-the-art acoustic and language modelling methods including deep and recurrent neural networks, and the development of systems using weighted finite state transducers.

The post is full time and fixed term until the 31st January 2019. The post is available from 1st October 2017.

Please feel free to contact Steve Renals [email protected] for informal enquiries.

Closing Date: Wednesday 6th September 2017 at 5pm (GMT)
